hubSW scores big for local charities at annual golf day!
Six philanthropic organisations carrying out much-needed community work across Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway have benefited to the tune of thousands following the second annual hub South West Charity Golf Event.
More than 90 players representing 26 companies from the hub South West supply chain gathered in June at the East Kilbride Golf Club for a day of competition, networking and fundraising. By the close of proceedings more than £20,000 was raised for the six chosen charities, up more than 40% on the £14,150 raised in 2018.
Cheques for £3,345.65 have now been presented to each of the following organisations: Breast Cancer Now, CHAS, CHAP, Chris’s House, Dumfries & Galloway Blood Bikes and Unity Grill.
The charity golf day is organised by the hub Club, the networking initiative of hub South West aimed at engaging local businesses and encouraging them to share their experiences. It runs a series of events and workshops featuring information on current construction issues, business learning slots and networking opportunities designed to increase collaboration and inter-trading among the members of the hub South West supply chain.
“Following the success of our first charity golf day last year, we set ourselves an ambitious target to raise £20,000 in 2019, which I am delighted to say that we have exceeded,” said Michael McBrearty, chief executive of hub South West.
“All of this year’s chosen charities provide vital services in their respective communities. It’s a genuine pleasure to be able to support their activities, as it reinforces the whole ethos of hub South West, which is to recycle the local pound in the delivery of economic regeneration.”
Established in 2012, hub South West is the public-private partnership dedicated to community infrastructure projects in Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway. Its aim is to deliver value for money on these projects while also generating growth in local economies.
“I would like to give a huge thanks to our Tier 1 construction sector contractors – Morgan Sindall, Keir, Graham and Morrison Construction – and to our other main sponsors on the day: Cruden, Ashleigh Building, GHI, CCG and Linear Design & Construct,” Michael added.
“We further appreciate the support of many others within our supply chain who provided raffle and auction prizes on the day. We would not have been able to achieve this tremendous result for our local charities without their generous backing.”
